About NATIONAL P.U.COLLEGE BASAVANAGUDI

The National Pre-University College is located in Basavanagudi, South Bengaluru, a very popular hub of education. The National Education Society of Karnataka manages the college. The college was established in 1945 to commemorate the Silver Jubilee of The National High School, which was founded in 1917. The Pre-University College was bifurcated from the Degree College in 2001, as per the guidelines of the University Grants Commission.

The founders had a vision and a deep commitment to nation-building. Over its eight decades of existence, The National College has made significant contributions to the holistic development of society. The college takes pride in having produced meritorious students, scientists, legal professionals, and able administrators with impeccable moral values. Many alumni of the college have carved a niche for themselves both in India and abroad.
Besides academic excellence, the college constantly encourages students to participate in co-curricular activities such as drama, sports, NCC (Army & Navy), literary, and cultural events. The college has produced many eminent theatre and cinema artists such as Mr. Srinath, Mr. C. R. Simha, and Mr. Vishnuvardhan, the late veteran Kannada film star, as well as sports personalities like E. A. S. Prasanna, Googly Bowler B. S. Chandrasekhar, and Leg Spinner Anil Kumble, who have earned national and international recognition.

The motto and vision of the institution is “Shraddha Hi Parama Gathi Hi”, which means “Dedication is the only path to attain the highest achievement.”

The college also carries forward the legacy of great visionaries like Mahatma Gandhi, striving to promote the ideals of secularism, humanism, and scientific temper. Late Dr. H. Narasimhaiah, an alumnus of The National High School, was a prominent Gandhian, freedom fighter, teacher, physicist, Vice-Chancellor of Bangalore University, and former President of the National Education Society of Karnataka. He was an ardent institution builder and a continuous inspiration in the field of education.

The college has spacious classrooms and well-equipped science laboratories, along with separate departments for Science, Arts, Commerce, and Physical Education with highly qualified faculty. The campus also includes a three-floor library with a reference room, an AI and Robotics Lab, the Gandhi–Nehru Closed Auditorium, and the Dr. H. N. Multimedia Hall, which support various academic and co-curricular programmes. The college also offers scholarships to students who have achieved excellence in academics.
