The National Pre-University College is located in Basavanagudi, South Bengaluru, a very popular hub of education. The National Education Society of Karnataka manages the college. The college was established in 1945 to commemorate the Silver Jubilee of The National High School, which was founded in 1917. The Pre-University College was bifurcated from the Degree College in 2001, as per the guidelines of the University Grants Commission.
The founders had a vision and a deep commitment to nation-building. Over its eight decades of existence, The National College has made significant contributions to the holistic development of society. The college takes pride in having produced meritorious students, scientists, legal professionals, and able administrators with impeccable moral values. Many alumni of the college have carved a niche for themselves both in India and abroad.
Besides academic excellence, the college constantly encourages students to participate in co-curricular activities such as drama, sports, NCC (Army & Navy), literary, and cultural events. The college has produced many eminent theatre and cinema artists such as Mr. Srinath, Mr. C. R. Simha, and Mr. Vishnuvardhan, the late veteran Kannada film star, as well as sports personalities like E. A. S. Prasanna, Googly Bowler B. S. Chandrasekhar, and Leg Spinner Anil Kumble, who have earned national and international recognition.
